The "Latin America and China Student Competition 2024: Projects for Poverty Reduction" is an innovative initiative that seeks to unite young people from China and Latin America in the fight against poverty. Recognizing the differences in natural conditions, levels of economic development, history, culture, and institutions between countries, the challenge encourages participants to exchange knowledge and develop creative and sustainable solutions to reduce poverty in the regions involved.

Presentation of individual projects: August 15, 2024
Field study of the cases to alleviate poverty: August 16, 2024
Final presentation of the teams and award ceremony: August 17, 2024

This action aims to encourage students to develop creative and sustainable solutions to fight poverty. Through collaboration between young people from different countries, the competition seeks to explore and understand the specific conditions of each region, promoting the exchange of knowledge and experiences. In addition, it aims to empower participants with practical and theoretical skills, preparing them to face global challenges and contribute to sustainable development.
1. Economics and Politics: Participants can explore public policies and economic strategies to reduce poverty by looking at income distribution, access to essential services, and social assistance programs.
2. Engineering and Technology: Innovative solutions can emerge through affordable and sustainable technologies that improve living conditions in underserved communities, such as renewable energy systems, access to clean water, and agricultural technologies.
3. Social Sciences: Social sciences offer insights into the social and cultural determinants of poverty, while anthropology, sociology, and psychology can help understand community dynamics and the needs of vulnerable groups.
4. Health: Health is intrinsically linked to poverty, and participants can explore ways to improve access to health services and promote healthy lifestyles in low-income communities.
5. Education: Educational strategies are crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty, and projects can focus on inclusive education.
6. Management: Aspects of management, entrepreneurship, and business development can be explored to promote sustainable economic growth and income generation in disadvantaged communities.
7. Law: Social justice and human rights issues are intrinsically linked to poverty, and participants can examine legal policies and practices that promote equality and access to justice for all.
Poverty reduction is a universal challenge for developing countries and a shared global challenge. Over the years, nations have sought ways to alleviate poverty and accumulated valuable experience. Based on the perspective of mutual learning, this project encourages participants to develop creative and sustainable solutions to fight poverty.
Due to differences in natural conditions, levels of economic development, history, culture, and institutions among participating countries, ideas and approaches to poverty alleviation, as well as related technologies and models, may differ among participating countries. The exchange of learning between Brazilian, Chinese, Chilean students is intended to develop creative and sustainable solutions to reduce poverty in the regions involved.
Teaching – Application of Curricular Contents: Students apply classroom theories and knowledge to real problems of poverty reduction, leadership, creativity, and teamwork.
Extension – Exchange of Knowledge and Culture: This action promotes collaboration between students from different countries and facilitates a rich exchange of knowledge and cultural experiences, expanding understanding and empathy among participants.
Research – Development of Innovative Solutions: Students research best practices and develop new approaches to poverty reduction, documenting and disseminating the results for replication in other contexts.
Students participating in the competition are expected to develop intercultural competencies and solutions in diverse fields of expertise and learn from each other at Latin American and Chinese universities.
The competition seeks to develop students' global skills, leadership, creativity and teamwork. More broadly, these students are expected to utilize their thinking and skills to tackle global challenges, developing competencies that enable them to deal actively with real problems and world challenges in the future.
